The most successful nonprofits know how to maximize volunteers to build mission awareness and increase fundraising activity. Whether it’s equipping your volunteers with a clear message so they can spread the word or involving them in expanding your organization’s donor prospect pool, there are numerous creative ways to leverage volunteers without intimidating them. This session with Bronwyn Walker explores what makes volunteer and fundraising programs mutually beneficial, ultimately leading to greater organizational impact.

Speaker Bronwyn Walker, CFRE, stands as a seasoned expert in nonprofit management with a background in direct fundraising, consulting and C-level leadership.  Her firsthand experience as both a client and consultant of Dini Spheris positions her to drive positive action through thoughtful collaboration.  She loves leveraging philanthropy to fuel community impact.

Volunteers provide critical support to our organizations' programs, services, and clients that otherwise wouldn't be possible.  However, recognition is often limited to an annual event instead of a daily cultural practice.  This session delves into volunteer motivation, budget-friendly recognition strategies, talent nurturing, preventing burnout, and sustaining volunteers' commitment and motivation.
We are VERY excited to offer this encore session that filled up very quickly at CCOV in September 2023.  Now is your chance to gain this insight!

Presenter Betsy McFarland, CVA is a Principle Consultant at Adisa and Energize.  She specialized in maximizing volunteer impact by helping leaders align volunteer efforts with their missions.  She provides assessments, customized strategies, and training to ensure effective deployment of volunteer energy for organizational goals.  Betsy also co-directs the Initiative for Strategic Volunteer Engagement and facilitates the National Alliance for Volunteer Engagement.

Data storytelling is the art and science of turning insights into a narrative designed to move an audience to action.  Today’s volunteer resource professional is immersed in data points for use in informed and strategic decision making.  These insights can be further illuminated through effective communication techniques such as data storytelling.
Attendees will become familiar with the data storytelling process, learn a simple three-step method for creating more effective data visualizations, and leave with immediately actionable takeaways to create more compelling data communication.

Roseanna Galindo, ECBA, CAVS, is the founder of Periscope Business Process Analysis and a seasoned leader with over 30 years in volunteer administration, 16 of which were in healthcare.  Her work bridges business analysis and communications to help nonprofit organizations achieve measurable outcomes. Notably, she developed the Volunteer Satisfaction Index (VSI), a groundbreaking tool in volunteer metrics, published in the Journal of Social Service Research.  Holding degrees in Media Arts (B.A.)  and Organizational Communication (M.A.) from California State University, Chico, Roseanna has also served intermittently on the faculty for over two decades. She combines her academic background and industry experience to offer impactful communication skill-based workshops and training, all aimed at enhancing data savvy and organizational effectiveness.

We all need time every now and then to get outside and re-balance.  DOVIA Colorado is thrilled to offer our own version of forest bathing, which we're calling garden bathing!

Background:  Forest bathing, also known as Shinrin-yoku, aims to immerse individuals in nature for enhanced well-being. By engaging senses in serene environments like forests, it promotes relaxation and stress reduction through activities such as mindful walks and breathing exercises. The primary goal is to foster a deeper connection with nature while disconnecting from the fast-paced modern world.  The benefits of forest bathing are manifold, including reduced cortisol levels, lower blood pressure, and boosted immunity. It also improves mood, enhances focus and creativity, and fosters appreciation for the environment. Ultimately, forest bathing offers a holistic approach to well-being, promoting harmony between humans and nature for a healthier, more balanced life.

This session of garden bathing will be supported by Patty Jackson.  Patty is the Volunteer Manager at Swallow Hill Music and has been in volunteer management for 10 years.  She is looking forward to introducing you to this excellent way to connect with the beauty of nature and to de-stress.
